Yeah, I know there's a pre-built bar-code reader, but where's the fun in that? I want to be able to program it to recognise any kind of bar-code!

So I've started looking at writing a program (using LegOS) for my RCX that uses a light sensor to read bar-codes. Haven't got very far yet, main problem is accurately being able to notice the difference between black & white lines in quick succession. But I'll let you know (right here) when I get it going.
