EWB Turbine Day
On 24th August, Engineers Without Borders held a nationwide awareness/fundraising day for their renewable energy programs. I helped them by designing the tower and blades. They completed the design of the nacelle and hub, complete with motors so it could actually generate power.
I took my camera along to Federation square at about 10am, and took some photos of the early building. Lots of people took the chance to add some bricks, while others donated without building. Naturally not everyone followed the instructions correctly, so some help was required.
At about lunch time I hopped on a train to Clayton, to check out how their build was going. They were much further along than Federation Square, but they were mostly uni students, so that wasn’t surprising 😉 Anyway, I stayed to help until they finished at about 3pm, and took some photos.
On my return to Federation Square, they had good new and bad news – they HAD finished the build, but it only lasted about 15 minutes! It crashed to the ground just before I had returned, so I was unable to take any photos of their completed build. But other people did, and I will post links as soon as they are available.
