NXT Miniature Chess

December 17th, 2006 by RoscoHead
NXT Miniature Chess Well, I wasn’t intending to announce this until it was finished, but it’s unlikely to be finished anytime soon because:

  1. There’s a bug somewhere that’s proved hard to track down, and
  2. I have to move early in January, followed by my special assignment in Sydney, so won’t have time to work on it for a while

So I figure I might as well publish what I’ve got so far.

Merry Christmas!

NXT Snake game

December 11th, 2006 by RoscoHead
NXT Snake game My second NXT project came from an idea on NXTasy.org for using a LEGO built joystick for game input. I couldn’t be bothered building a joystick, but the idea of a snake game appealed, so here it is.

2 new BRE bridges

November 17th, 2006 by RoscoHead

These 2 bridges were ultra quick builds for M>ltc’s last layout.

Sandstone road bridge The first is a sandstone road bridge, to provide a link for the country people to get to town. It is a simple arch bridge, with 2 traffic lanes, and footpaths on either side. It is very simple in construction, but surprisingly sturdy.
Sandstone road bridge The second is a short trestle bridge, to carry the high level train line. The construction is fairly simple, except for the curves required at each end. They initially posed some problems, but they were solved with the help of Teunis, our artistic director.

A third bridge was also constructed to carry the main lines across the river, but that was a much larger project, and will be documented fully in a subsequent article.

Tic Tac Toe for NXT

October 21st, 2006 by RoscoHead

Screen Shot

Well, I’ve been playing a bit with NBC on my NXT lately, and the first program I like to write in any new language is Tic Tac Toe, so here is my NXT version. You are always “X” and have the first move. NXT plays for the draw, but will win if you stuff up! Use the arrow keys and enter key on the NXT to play.
